Funding Boost as Tweed Togs Celebrates Milestone!

Tweed Togs is thrilled to announce a second successful funding application for 2025! An application submitted under the National Lottery’s Award for All scheme has been approved, with £20,000 awarded to the charity for their ‘Running Costs’ application to help sustain the charity that has now supported over 2,500 children in the Scottish Borders!

The application requested £20,000 to support the charity’s operational costs, which are vital for maintaining the service Tweed Togs provides. As a fully volunteer-led organisation, Tweed Togs receives no guaranteed funding; it relies on fundraising, donors and grants to cover all expenses. These include rent for the workspace and storage, used by volunteers to deliver and organise donations, handle referral requests, and store laundered clothing bags before delivery. Utility bills and costs associated with materials for clothing parcels have also increased significantly in recent years. The application also requested funds to support and celebrate the fantastic Tweed Togs volunteers!

Tweed Togs trustee, Elaine Wise, expressed the charity’s delight with the award: “This funding is crucial for the ongoing work of Tweed Togs – our referring agencies emphasise that we provide an essential service that is a lifeline for the families they support. A key criterion for applications under the Awards for All scheme was to bring people together and help communities flourish. Tweed Togs strongly believes in the strength of community. Our volunteers, the donors of high-quality clothing, local businesses offering their premises as collection points, and our referring agencies all play vital roles, working together to reach the most vulnerable children. We are very proud that this simple, community-based approach has now supported over 2500 children in the Borders - an exceptional achievement for a volunteer-led charity! AND we are delighted to have been awarded funds to celebrate this with our fabulous volunteers, which we aim to do in early 2026. Thanks to the National Lottery for their continued support!"
